Enough is Enough

Christmas break is nearly over, I have been inside with kids for what feels like days on end and we don't have a working t.v. We have a 52" DLP eye sore that takes up the entire room it occupies. My husband doesn't care, it's big and who cares how the room functions. I've sort of 'given' that room over to him and the kids and so when the t.v. lamp burned out a least a month ago, initially I really didn't care. I left Tom a message at work stating, "your lamp burned out, it's no big deal, we need a new one." He called back in about 5 minutes requesting information so he could get a new one ordered. At the time I didn't have a working washing machine. So, I said something the along the lines of "you want a lamp for your t.v., and I don't have a washing machine" REALLY? Validation here appreciated, I'm not crazy, we just needed clean clothes! Somehow, things ended up ok, he ordered the lamp the same day we went out and bought new washing machine. BUT, when the lamp arrived 4 weeks ago, it was the wrong part, so he sent it back and tried again. It's not a part you can go into Best Buy and purchase. Had we known the fiasco of the lamp, we could have pre-ordered a while ago, hindsight. It is now Jan 1, 2009 and my children have not watched t.v. in this house since around Dec. 1. I'm ready for the t.v. back, it's a welcome babysitter, and I realize we ordered the stupid part during Christmas, but come on UPS, according to our tracking information the cursed lamp has been in Orem since yesterday and it won't be brought to our house until tomorrow. My kids don't watch t.v. during school, so it really won't matter once Monday rolls around, but with Marisa home dividing my little ones to take sides until blood has been drawn, I welcome back Dora, Wow Wow Wubzy and even the teen Disney line ups, bring em on, I'm ready.
Side note, Christmas toys are already boring, except new wii game they haven't played with yet.

Part 2
UPS delivered for the second time our beloved lamp. January 2nd, Sugar Bowl. Just in time to watch Utah dominate Alabama. Well, as Tom got his tools out and delicately began installing the lamp, it didn't fit. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? He double checked the part number, everything was ordered correctly, he called some 800 number to China or Japan and was told they don't make the lamps to fit anymore. Umm so we have a useless big screen t.v that is less than 2 years old. Great. That didn't stop him, he would watch the Sugar Bowl on his t.v. He bought a dremel and rigged the cartridge to fit his lamp. But by the time he had the t.v. fixed, the game was over, our Dish Network HD stations had gone out due to weather, and while I was enjoying the victory with my dad and brothers at their house, he was at home without his t.v. and a sleeping child. There has got to be a moral to this t.v. debacle I just haven't figured it out yet.

Oh wow. I'm sorry for you guys... especially for Tom totally missing the game. That just sucks. We've been TV-free about 3 or 4 months (I forget exactly when we shut it off) and during the warm months it was no big deal. The kids were outside enough that they didn't even miss it. Being snowed in over the winter without TV may prove to be more difficult. We may cave and order at least the locals... (though I most miss CNN Headline News, Discovery, and LMN movies. I know, my channel tastes are eclectic.)

The thing that bothers me the most about this story is that the company thinks it is acceptable to discard a not very old t.v. because one small part isn't working. That is ridiculous and environmentally irresponsible! That is my rant about that.
